Chesed & Bikur Cholim
(kindness & visiting the sick)

One of the major pillars of Judaism is G'milut Chasadim (acts of loving kindness). All of us at some time in our lives are in need of help for various reasons: illness, injury, immobility, loneliness, etc. No greater mitzvah can be achieved than carrying out acts of kindness and visiting the infirmed. Our Social Action Committee (SAC) wishes to engage more members of our congregation in this wonderful activity. So often the visitor receives as much gratification as the visited; and often in life it's more rewarding to give than to receive. If you are interested in participating please contact the Temple's administrative office to learn how you can help and what you would be willing to do. Also, if you are someone in need please let us know.

Our congregatation is involved in efforts to feed those in need.

Clothing Collection

During the winter season, we held both a children and adult clothing drive culminating in several carloads of clothing, which were donated to Head Start and the MACC Clothing Store. During the spring, we held another children's clothing drive for kids participating in the Manchester Head Start Program.

Head Start Gift Shop

Volunteers from Temple Beth Sholom help 3 and 4 year old children at two Head Start locations to choose and wrap gifts for their family members during the winter holiday season. Our members donate all the gifts. We are the only religious congregation in the community that provides this unique service that is so appreciated by the kids.

Mitzvah Day

The tenth annual Mitzvah Day will be held on May 22, 2011. Many volunteers from the congregation help with activities to benefit both the Temple and community. These include fun activities for children involved in the DCF system,  sprucing up the Temple grounds and the Berdine Stoltz garden, a nursing home visit, and other fulfilling mitzvahs. We look forward to everyone's involvement in this important mitzvah.
