A volunteer choir has been part of the fabric of the life of BSBI–and Temple Beth Sholom before that–for decades. Directed by BSBI Member Ron Abrahams, the choir performs at all services on the High Holy Days, and on other occasions during the year. Performances have included special Shabbat services, a Hartford area zimriya (Jewish choral festival), holiday celebrations, an interfaith Thanksgiving service, and even during the funeral of a choir member. Singing in two or three parts, the choir enjoys traditional as well as contemporary settings of texts.
In 2007, a CD of original prayers and songs composed and arranged by our former cantor, Anita Schubert, was published. They were performed by our choir & soloists.
Here is a video of our zimriya performance in 2011:
Adults and teens are welcome to join the choir. Knowledge of Hebrew, reading music, and choral singing experience are helpful but not required. Contact Judy Meyer for more information: 860-644-9271 or by email to firstname.lastname@example.org.
