Meet Our Teachers and Aides

Sarah Poutre

Kindergarten and 1st Grade

Sarah Poutre works in the Glastonbury YMCA as a teacher aide and is currently attending Manchester Community College for early childhood education.  She has been part of the congregation for 22 years.  She is excited to work with her students and further their education

Aviv Rau 

3rd and 5th Grades

Aviv Rau hails from Atlanta, GA, where she has tutored and taught at a number of congregations. A senior at Wesleyan University, Aviv is involved with the Wesleyan Jewish Community and in labor organizing around the state of Connecticut. Aviv works as a barista at her campus cafe and co-hosts a podcast called Unwind the Line.


Emma Finer 

Aide, 3rd and 5th Grades

Emma is starting her fourth year as an aide in the BSBI Religious School. She is a sophomore at South Windsor High School and a member of the school's competitive all-female a cappella group, Treble Choir. Emma enjoys skiing and drawing in her spare time.


Jacob Beilenson 

6th and 7th Grades
Jacob is a senior American Studies major at Wesleyan University. He grew up in a Reform synagogue in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania, and is currently a member of the multi-denominational Jewish community at Wesleyan. He plans on pursuing a career in Jewish Education. His specific interests include History, Music, and Critical Pedagogy.


Becca Norman 

Aide 6th and 7th Grades

Becca is a senior at Edwin O. Smith High School. She has been going to BSBI since she was in preschool and she is so excited to help teach your children this year!


Jane Zimmerman 

Hebrew and Music

Jane has been a member of BSBI and a music teacher for many years. She has taught in the Vernon and Glastonbury school system, as well as at Solomon Schechter Day School in West Hartford. She also teaches private piano and guitar lessons. This is her fourth year teaching at the BSBI Religious School, and she is looking forward to another successful and fun-filled year of learning for her students.
