Rachel Donnell grew up listening to her mother's stories of what she experienced in Auschwitz Concentration Camp. Rachel says, "Growing up with both parents being Holocaust survivors taught me a lot. Knowing that my parents were able to find the strength to endure such extremely horrible experiences has inspired me to persevere when things get difficult."

Rachel's mother, father, and all her aunts and uncles were Holocaust survivors from Poland. A few years ago, Rachel went to Poland with her cousins to see where her family was before and during the war to better understand her parents’ experiences. Rachel strongly feels it is important for people, especially young people, Jewish and non-Jewish, to learn the impact and lessons of the Holocaust as they are relevant and can be applied in today's world.  To share these lessons, she has been speaking to audiences in schools, places of religion and the community.

Rachel Donnell was born and raised in the Bronx, New York. She moved to Manchester, Connecticut to earn her Master's Degree at UConn. She was a teacher in Willimantic for over 30 years. Rachel and her husband have three children, all of whom attended Manchester Public Schools. She is presently enjoying retirement with her husband and cat.
