Sisterhood Film Night

Saturday, February 4, 2023 13 Shevat 5783

7:00 PM - 9:00 PM

The film we will be showing is The Levys of Monticello. It tells the little known story of  the family and descendants of Lieutenant Uriah Phillip Levy who purchased and very carefully preserved Monticello for nearly a century; for longer than Jefferson or his descendants. By the time Jefferson died in 1826, he left a pile of debt which prevented him from keeping up repairs on his home and forced his heirs to sell the home and all its possessions. If not for this family, we would not have this lovely piece of American history to visit.
We also have a short film of the Director Steven Pressman being interviewed. It is interesting to hear why and how this story was so important to him and why he chose to tell it.  We will show this film afterwards if our audience would like to see it. It is really short but interesting. The film won The Building Bridges Jury Prize at the Atlanta Jewish Film Festival 2022. Come and watch with us!
